cheese it! .. redux!

Like several others I've noticed, I posted while queermail was in the spotlight and while I did get several responses, they seemed to all fall through. =/  So, I'm trying again because I was pretty sad when I was all for getting penpals and then.. poof, nada. x3

Name:
Courtney

Age:
22 ( will be turning 23 soon, aaah oldness D: )

Location:
Iowa, USA

How do you identify?:
female/bi-sexual

Interests/hobbies:
My goodness, I guess I'm not sure where to start. In no certain order of importance: art, drawing/sketching, writing, photography!, my spoiled rotten furkids (a.k.a. my dogs), watching thunderstorms, anime, instrumental music, blah blah.. I guess I could go on and on, but I feel like a bad myspace page listing what I'm interested in so let's try it a different way.  I am happiest when I'm outdoors and surrounded by nature.  As much as I don't like creepy crawly bugs, if spiders and mosquitos didn't exist I would rarely be inside - despite how much I adore the innocence of Spongebob.  I have always loved animals, my mom would say since birth, and it's quite impossible for me to pick a favorite.  Canines, both wild and domestic, and owls are just two near the top.  I'm an avid photographer, and my absolute favorite time of any day is the "golden hour" - the hour before the sun fully sets and dusk settles in.  I will become a professional author in time, and those closest to me would say that was an almost uncannily optimistic statement for me to say.  I'm not exactly pessimistic, just realistic!  I do like being silly and spontaneous, although I believe on a daily basis I'm not nearly as exciting as I'd like to be.  I enjoy random dancing when no ones watching, and driving long distances with the windows down and feeling the wind in my hair.  Although I enjoy to go new places and meet people, I sometimes find it difficult because I am a shy, more introvert person until you get to know me.  I am not an open book, and never want to be.  ^_^

Favourite books:
I'm sure I'd have more here if I had the time.  it takes a lot for me not to like a book, honestly.  I don't even know what my favorites are anymore, but I know I will always love Tolkien.  He is made of win.  At the risk of sounding egotistical, I believe the books-in-progress I am co-authoring are pretty awesome too.

Favourite films:
I am a sucker for old horror movies - zombies, pet cemetaries, vampires, yes please!  My childhood is going to make me mention The Lion King, Robin Hood, and the Studio Ghibli films.  Not surprising, I adore The Lord of the Rings films, Tristan and Isolde, Gladiator - almost any movie that is medieval, fantasy/fiction, bad horror, and 80's-early 90's comedy.  2D animation rocks my socks off.  I don't like much of the recent comedy or romance films that have come out in the past few years, but it really takes a lot for me not to like a movie.  Heck, anyone seen Tremors?  If I like that movie, I can pretty much like anything. :3

Favourite music:
I listen to a lot of instrumental and soundtracks.  Gimme a sad violin or piano and I'll be happy for hours.  I can't stand listening to the radio, and other than instrumental, I have a pretty wide range of music interest.  From oldies like Simon and Garfunkel, 90's rock, Chevelle, 30 Seconds To Mars, and Lady Gaga.  I'm not a huge jazz fan and I don't like rap/hip hop really at all.  Chances are I haven't heard the newest song on the charts.  I find music on my own terms and don't follow the trends much.

What would you like to send/receive?:
I would say I prefer actual written letters, but I'm afraid my handwriting isn't always the easiest to decipher (promise I'll try!).  Some people have no problem, but others think I'm writing in gibberish.  Email is just fine, but there's something about a hand written letter.. don't know what it is.  An amazing friend of mine has send me care packages in the past and of course, I've been a bad friend and still haven't sent mine yet (still missing one thing before it gets mailed), if we wrote back and forth for a little while, I'd be up for that. :)  I would prefer letters, but I know some people like to start with email.  I honestly just want someone who will write back. x3

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?:
Anyone who would want to talk to me?  I dunno, I feel weirdly picky if I asked for only specific people.  Like I've mentioned above, I'm more of a shy individual but I have friends of all different types and backgrounds, and get along with most just dandy.

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?:
No real preference here either, whoever! :3

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: (eg. "food/candy with nuts")
Hmm.. I don't like coconut or apple candy.  No anthrax please! lol is that even relevant these days?

What would be in your dream letter or package?:
I am a sucker for plushies, candy, and anything cute or from Japan.  Art stuff, weird things from antique stores or garage sales.. I'm a pack rat, add to my horde!

Anything else you'd like to add?:
uuhhhh.. I like caffeine. :B

Picture (optional):  As a photographer, I'm more often than not behind the camera, not in front of it.  Also, I rarely take a good photo (helplessly awkward) so here's one from last summer.  Yep, I'm a pirate.  If only those were my everyday clothes. <3  Only difference is my hair is about 4-5 inches longer.

[identity profile] girly-boi.livejournal.com 2010-08-11 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
You mean you DON'T dress like a pirate every day?!? ;-)

[identity profile] girly-boi.livejournal.com 2010-08-11 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, people should just be able to wear WHATEVER they want no matter what. Some of us even look totally ridiculous wearing what we like to wear. But I wouldn't say that applies to you at all, you look pretty kick-ass as a pirate! :-)

Somehow I feel like I commented on your first post? Or maybe I didn't because so many people had already done that?
I know I wanted to comment... I think?

Plus, anyone whose handwriting is hard to decipher should be my friend ;) Oh, and I have the same boots.

You know what? I'm just going to add you. I suppose we can go from there :)
Oh, and I looked at some of your photos - I like <3
Yeah, I do have the same boots! Well, technically they belong to my mum but she doesn't wear them much, so I do and, well, I can call them mine. Only-Child-Syndrome. Haha.

And don't worry about not being on LJ that much - I just added you to... have you which sounds awkward and weird but maybe you know what I mean?
I posted my profile 100000 years ago http://community.livejournal.com/queermail/34912.html

Hee, oki :)
Mine's vintagepsycho@gmx.net - and I prefer letters, too, but, well, it's our penpal-thingy and we can do whatever we like. Yay!
I should mention, though, that I am currently organising stuff for uni which means that I might a) not be able to send letters right away (I would love to but I need to see how much money I'll need) and b) would you mind going first? I will - of course!!! - reply but I'm currently looking at flats/rooms and I might forget about it with all the chaos that is my life these days but if there's a mail I won't forget :D

Yeah, so, if you still think we should be friends after this little random comment... haha, feel free to email me <3

http://www.filmsite.org/horrorfilms.html
http://www.dvdtown.com/review/masterworks-of-german-horror-cinema-nosferatu--der-golem--the-cabinet-of-dr-caligari/dvd/429
they are also underground german ones of newer years(80ties) jörg buttgereit is a famous example but that stuff is too crass for my taste

i enjoyed nosferatu one shot by f.w. murnau (silent)-a classic
and the remake with klaus kinski(awesome guy, completel mad, but great actor) shot by w. herzog
