Name: James
Age: 22
Location: Cambridge, MA for now (but may change if I land a job in NYC)
How do you identify?: Gay/queer and cisgender. Along these lines, anti-objectificationist, feminist, critical/critiquing, and trans-allied. I wouldn't identify myself as "radical" because "radical" has as its origins the reclamation of a "root" or solidifying ontological origin. My politics are rather constantly reconfiguring, destabilizing, critiquing, and fluid. I'm pro-fluidity (unexpectedly monogamous though).
Interests/hobbies: Reading, writing, complaining skillfully, enjoying being outside (a new one for me)
Favourite books: Fields: anthropology, Feminist/trans theory, Marxist theory, critical theory; monographs: Gender Trouble by Judith Butler, Queer Phenomenology by Sara Ahmed, Dialectic of Enlightenment by Max Horkheimer and Theodore W. Adorno, Anti-Oedipus by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, Assuming a Body by Gayle Salamon, anything by Michel Foucault
Favourite films: Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of film.
Favourite music: Mariah Carey, Alanis Morissette, James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel, Blind Melon, La Oreja de Van Gogh
What would you like to send/receive?: It would be cool to start receiving written mail, but I'm also down for internet friendships, e-mail buddies, etc.
Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: Someone who understood the first few of my responses. Other people who identify as queer and are concerned about the assimilationist turn of lgbt rights.
What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: I'm open to anyone. I speak English and Spanish, and I am learning French and German for graduate school.
What would be in your dream letter or package?: Love.
