Name: Niina, but I have a problem with names - I don't see how I'm supposed to identify with a string of letters my parents chose for me without even knowing me yet.

Age: Turned 24 on January 11th.

Location: Kajaani, Finland... from which you may conclude that English isn't my native language and thus I'm prone to making mistakes.

How do you identify?: I'm... queer? Can I just say queer? 'Cause I don't like to further categorize myself because everything is fluid. A year ago I thought I was going to transition but now I'm not so sure. Assigned female at birth, lived as a girl most of my life, but have always felt uncomfortable in that role. When it comes to sexuality, well, I'm married to a man but I tend to think of myself as panromantic and kinda sorta asexual. Not 100 % asexual but somewhat.w

Interests/hobbies A myriad of things!

Gardening! I started a gardening school last autumn, but due to my mental health issues (clinical depression, borderline personality disorder, anxiety disorder) I had to give it up.

Interior decorating! Once upon a time I wanted to turn it into a career, but really, I'm not good enough at it to even consider it.

Professional organizing! I'm just getting started on that career. I blog about it, and I'm currently overjoyed that my website is the fourth in Google when you Google my name!

Cats. I and my husband have one. A black boy called Hiili ("coal" in English).

Dogs. We have one, too. A Siberian husky girl called Voltti ("volt" or "somersault" in English).

The Internet. Obviously. I have blogs (yes, plural; I have an interior decorating blog, a plant blog, a Tumblr blog, a professional organizing blog...

Astrophysics and astrobiology. I'm terribly at physics and biology, especially physics, but I find it interesting.

Playing Skyrim and The Sims 4 (on Xbox 360 and PC, respectively). That's our hobby, really: we sit on the sofa, I spend time online and my husband plays Skyrim, and then we switch. (My husband plays a lot more games but I haven't gotten interested in, say, Lara Croft games.)

Reading. I'm currently reading about Feng Shui to incorporate that into my professional organizing business. Because the more I learn, the better I can serve my clients.

Favourite books: I've read a huge amount of books (learned to read at the age of four, so that's twenty years of reading for me) and it's always super difficult for me to choose a favorite. But The Lord of the Rings has stuck with me the longest, plus the Potter series, and everything by Jodi Picoult. I'm a writer myself, and I try my best to read as many different kinds of books as possible.

Favourite films: I'm not too into movies. But I've loved The Lord of the Rings, American History X, Fight Club, Klass, Zero Day, and a bunch of documentaries. What's that one in which ducklings jump from the tree? That scene is ADORABLE. I want to rewatch it.

Favourite music: My Last.fm will tell you more.

What would you like to send/receive?: Letters, mostly, since I'm kinda poor and can't afford to send packages overseas. At least not too often.

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: Anyone who thinks we might have something in common. I'm not too into the whole "you must be between x and y years old" thing because I don't think age is all that matters in a friendship.

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: No preference. As long as your English is understandable, I think we're good to go.

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: Anything's cool. Except liquorice.

What would be in your dream letter or package?: Umm. I would like a letter talking about what's up in your life, with a bunch of random observations of the world and yourself, plus something that would be easy for me to reply to. Like direct questions.

Anything else you'd like to add?: I tend to be SUPER awkward at first, so... I'm sorry if I end up scaring you. XD Also, this Journal is only in Finnish so if you're looking to friend me, you'd better learn Finnish. ;)

How do you identify?: At the moment, I identify as non-binary. It's a pretty recent realization and I'm not sure what it means regarding my sexual identity, yet.

Interests/hobbies: I read a lot of fiction and also some books on society, gender studies, queer studies, literary history and literary theory. I play classical music and sing in a feminist choir. I'm very much into Postcrossing, which is sending postcards to strangers around the world, but I also really like receving mail from people I actually know. I'm interested in literature, gender studies, queer studies, queer theory, Ireland and many other things. I'm in some fandoms, e.g. Harry Potter, BBC Sherlock and Lord of the Rings. I drink a lot of tea and use most of my little amount of extra money on books and tea.

Favourite books: The Harry Potter series (I'm a huge fan!), Oscar Wilde's work (especially his plays), Emma Donoghue's novels, Sarah Water's novels, Donna Tartt's The Secret History, Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. James Joyce's The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Of course the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Wilslava Szymborska's poems. Stephen Fry's novels, especially Making History. For Finnish writers: Pirkko Saisio and Johanna Sinisalo are my favourites. Recently, I have been reading and enjoying Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Half of a Yellow Sun, J.K. Rowling's A Casual Vacancy, Tove Janssons' Moomin stories and Jonas Gardell's Torka aldrig tårar utan handskar -series (about people with AIDS in Sweden in the 80s). I'm very interested in hearing about your favourite books and authors!

Favourite films: I have seen a lot fewer films than read books... The Man in the Iron Mask is one of my all-time favourites. Wilde, where Stephen Fry plays Oscar Wilde is phenomenal. V for Vendetta, Apollo 13 and The Lord of the Rings movies. I'm quite excited about the Hunger Games movies.

Favourite music: I'm not sure if I have a genre I prefer over all others. Recently I have been listening to Disco Enseble, Gossip, Gogol Bordello, Clann Zú and System of a Down.

What would you like to send/receive?: Letters and postcards! Snail mail, preferably. I can also send (and wouldn't mind receving) samples of tea or candy.

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: Anyone, really. I'd love to talk to people outside the gender binary, but seriosly, if anyone answers my introduction, I'll be thrilled!

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: No, I can't really think of anything, besides the obvious ones, like hate mail or very unkind messages, or sexual content without any negotation about it.

What would be in your dream letter or package?: Well, possibly both a postcard and a letter, filled with your thoughts about literature, music, art, gender, your life and anything you wish to tell me. Perhaps also a bag or a few spoonfuls of your favourite tea for me to sample while reading what you have written.

Favorite shows: I could waste the day away watching the Food Network, or any cooking show(s) in general. I can’t deny that I love dramas, such as Grey’s Anatomy, and I do love the following for multiple reasons: Work of Art, The Amazing Race, Face Off, Project Runway, So You Think You Can Dance, Modern Family, and old gems like The L Word (did it really have to leave)?

Favourite music: I go crazy for music, but tend to find myself rather conservative in what I like; I love singer/songwriters and indie/folk rock. A few of my favorites: Regina Spektor, Bon Iver, Imogen Heap, Sufjan Stevens, Beirut, Ingrid Michaelson, Eisley, Iron & Wine, City and Colour, Bright Eyes, Mumford and Sons, Florence and the Machine, Fionna Apple, Fionn Regan, Vampire Weekend, etc.

What would you like to send/receive?: Letters, pictures, creative writing, musings, music/movie/books/anything recommendations, mixes, recipes, secrets, etc... I would love snail mail, but e-mail, texts, messages or the like work just fine.

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: I'm open to anyone, but would especially love others involved in the LGBTQ community, preferably not over 30, and if you are a female and lesbian, it’s certainly a plus, but absolutely not a deal breaker.

How do you identify?: I've been known to identify as a lesbian and as bisexual over the years but have recently concluded that I am, in fact, a bi-romantic asexual.

How do you identify?: I’m not big on labels, but if I had to apply one I would probably consider myself a lesbian woman but I have had sexual contact with guys in the past. Still, I am primarily attracted to other women.

About me: What to say? I am currently enjoying the rather long summer between my third and fourth year of university. I study law at Edinburgh, and have a bit of a love hate relationship, i.e. when it’s stuff I enjoy, I love it, when it comes to referencing essays, I hate it. I’m generally a calm person and enjoy staying in just as much as I do going out. I’ve never been the most confident person I know, but I do try not to be too shy. I love animals, especially my cats, and I take waay too many pictures of them. I enjoy going out for drinks or something to eat, especially since apart from baking cakes and making desserts, I suck in the kitchen. I love the friends I have, but am always happy to have more. My friends would probably describe me as a little mad, loyal and funny, which all things considered isn’t too bad!

Favourite Music: I’ll listen to almost anything, from rock to pop, country to classical. I play violin so I guess I have a bit of a weak spot for a gorgeous string melody.

Favorite movies/TV shows: Doctor Who, Grey's Anatomy, Rizzoli and Isles, Law and Order SVU, The Good Wife, ER, Harry’s Law, Prime Suspect, Hot in Cleveland – pretty much any courtroom/cop/medical drama, but then I also love a good chick flick (as predictable as they can be) or a comedy.

What would you like to send/receive?: Anything really. I do have to confess, I have a bit of a love for snail mail with nice stationary and stuff but I'm up for e-mail too and would love to send postcards occasionally or little trinkets, mixed cds, handmade stuff, doodles etc.

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: Anyone. I mostly read and write in English however. While I can read German passably well, and write it a little bit, I'm not to sure how well I would be understood, so it's probably best to keep correspondence in English. Those are the only two languages that I speak at all.

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: Viruses. Seeing as it's an electronic form of communication, I don't see much else that someone could send that I couldn't just delete if I didn't like it.

Interests/hobbies: Coffee-making, coffee chemistry, coffee nerdery. Photography, in particular self-portraiture. Going to see lots of live music and gathering gumption to make my own. Riding my bike as much as possible. Learning the ins and outs of opening a business opening someone else's place, because I plan to open my own in the next year.
