How do you identify?: Genderqueer/queer/poly

Interests/hobbies: Zines, tattoos, languages, snow, crafting (although I used to have more motivation for it than I do now), writing letters, queer things, anarchist things. I'm learning German, and eager to write to someone who speaks German (although be warned, I'm a beginner!).

Favourite books: Hmmmmm...I really like Jeanette Winterson & Kurt Vonnegut. I read loads, but suddenly can't think of what I like.

Favourite films: I'm not really into films

Favourite music: Folk-punk! (Basically most things on Plan-It-X Records.) Red Hot Chili Peppers have a special place in my heart. I like interesting rock/punk, and also some pop-type stuff; Tegan & Sara, Rihanna, etc.

What would you like to send/receive?: Snail mail! Also emails. If we really get on, I'm up for sending nice swap things (mix CDs, zines, etc.).

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: As above, I'm learning German (I'm currently a beginner), so would really like to write to someone who speaks German. (Although I suspect my letters will be in German & English!) Other than that, someone who has similar interests?

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: I don't mind.

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: Anything we haven't agreed on beforehand.

Name: Rachel

Age: 21 (22 next month!)

Location: Salem, Oregon, USA

How do you identify?: I've been known to identify as a lesbian and as bisexual over the years but have recently concluded that I am, in fact, a bi-romantic asexual.

Interests/hobbies: Writing, photography, Minecraft, watching shows and documentaries on Netflix, anthropology, history (particularly WWII), and cooking.

Favourite books: Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden, Night by Elie Wiesel, Back Roads by Tawni O'Dell, Lamb by Christopher Moore, American Gods by Niel Gaiman, and The Hunger Games. I'm not a huge reader so discussions here might fall short.

Favourite films/shows: Pirates of the Caribbean, The Bourne Trilogy, The Chronicles of Narnia series.. I'm honestly not much for films. I mean, I'll watch them, but I don't go nuts over them or anything. TV shows on the other hand? Supernatural, United States of Tara, Battlestar Galactica, Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries, Twilight Zone, Unsolved Mysteries, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Big Bang Theory, Cupcake Wars, Chopped, Roseanne, Dexter, Star Trek: TOS, Veronica Mars, and Downton Abbey. =D

Favourite music: My music taste is pretty boring since I'm not the type of person who needs music to live. But I do enjoy some indie/alternative, pop (mostly 80s and 90s), and classic rock.

What would you like to send/receive?: Letters, pictures, creative writing, journal entries, music/movie/show recs, music mixes, recipe exchanges, etc... I would prefer this would all be done via email for convenience and writing by hand kills my carpal tunnel.

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: I'm open to anyone, but I would especially appreciate asexuals and anyone within the 19 - 25 age range. All I ask is that they are consistent, open-minded, and that we have at least two things in common (always need a backup!)

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: Anywhere is fine by me so long as their English is understandable. I'd especially enjoy a German or Scot.

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: Preferably nothing via snail mail.

What would be in your dream letter or package?: Random discussions about anything and everything, recipe exchanges, creative writing or journal entries, music mixes, movie/show/music recommendations, rants, reviews, pretty much anything!

Anything else you'd like to add?: I do suffer from ADHD, depression, and anxiety and I am in therapy so I might talk about these things on occasion. If this makes you uncomfortable than please let me know beforehand. I don't want to be a downer for anybody!

Name: Julia

Age: 25

Location: Currently Germany, in a few weeks London

How do you identify?: Female / Lesbian

Interests/hobbies: I like a lot of things and there are only a few things I don't like and if I don't know something, then I get to know it. Mainly, I'm a writer. I write fanfiction and originals. I read a lot of fanfic and books. I'm interested in cultural things like museums and the theatre and movies or musicals.

Favourite books: The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Neverending Story

Favourite films: The Lord of the Rings, MILK, Out at the Wedding

Favourite music: I listen to almost everything I can get my hands on. Exceptions: I don't like Rap or House or Techno.

What would you like to send/receive?: Nothing in particular. That depends on the situation. I'm more interested in talking than receiving or sending things. If there's something I'd like to send to someone, then I'll do it.

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: People from all over the world in general, people from the UK and especially London or Surrey in particular. I'm gonna spend a year there soon and people who know their way around and can give me some advice would be wonderful. That's not a condition, though. If you think we'll get along, drop me a comment.

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: See the question above. :)

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: Porny things. I don't think anyone would surprise me with that without reason but ... yes, porny things.

What would be in your dream letter or package?: A letter from a nice person. :)

Anything else you'd like to add?: If there's anyone near London who'd like to meet up (after some getting to know each other of course) and having a real life friendship, that would be great. Again: Not a condition.

Picture (optional): If we know each other a bit better, you'll get one.

Bavaria, Germany

How do you identify?:
queer, gay/female

Interests/hobbies:
uhm… reading, writing, science, history, football/soccer, music, languages, astronomy, chemistry, biology, art, animals, etc

Favourite books:
Sherlock Holmes, everything written by Franz Kafka and a lot more, I generally love books and therefore have many favorites, though those change with the time

Favourite films: --

Favourite music:
The Beatles, Vienna Teng, Rammstein, Iron & Wine, Pink Floyd, Queen, etc.

What would you like to send/receive?:
I’d be happy about everything, to be honest, short letters, long letters, postcards, sweets or whatever you would like to send :)

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?:
I’d prefer gay/bisexual/queer women, to be quite honest. But anyone who’s interested is fine, too :)

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?:
I don’t care which country you are from, though please not from Germany, as I’d love to send and receive letters/whatever from different countries than my own. Also, I can only communicate in German and English, though I would actually prefer English, but both is fine

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?:
nothing I can think of (well, obviously nothing homophobic, transphobic, racist, etc.)

What would be in your dream letter or package?:
Something funny and creative, something personal and honest, a photo of your favorite place/pet/tree, a line from your favorite song, some of your favorite sweets… really, anything you can think of

Anything else you'd like to add?:
I would love to talk with someone about the whole, you know, not-being-straight thing, as I don’t really have people in my real life to talk about that, especially because I had a rather hard time coming out even to myself. But I’m also open to anything else you want to talk about, be it politics, history, gossip, you favorite band/pet/music, etc. I would also like to get to know more about your country and the area you live in, as I find such things quite interesting. Also, we could communicate via email, but I’d prefer hand-written letters or postcards, to be honest.

Whee!

Name: I usually go by Jonnie (as you can see by my awesomely-simple userpic).

Age: 20.

Location: MI, USA

How do you identify?: Male, homosexual (leaning asexual)

Interests/hobbies: I really, really, really love foreign languages (top three: German, French, and Dutch); I love music; I play flute and I compose when I have to time to (i.e. not much lately)—mainly for piano, which I ironically can't play; I write stories when I acutally have time to.

I also really like cats, yo.

Favourite books: Stephen King!, practically any book in German (and sometimes French), and also books with gay themes (mainly romance, because...well, haven't found much else). I read a lot online, actually.

Favourite films: Don't really watch movies much, at all, but I usually really like horror movies, as well as German/Germany-themed movies, Harry Potter too, for some reason. Most of the time, the way I decide to watch a movie is to ask, "Is one of my favorite actresses/actors in it?" or, "Does it look scary?" Like Saw.

Favourite music: Rammstein, Björk, lots of classical, hard rock/metal, practically anything in a foreign language (see a pattern here?), electronica, and some other stuff. Meh. I'm kind of picky about music, I love it, but not a lot of it.

What would you like to send/receive?: Snail mail would be fine, although I'd probably prefer email.

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: Anybody who's fine with my social-ineptness, for one. And I'd really like to send/receive mail from German and French speakers (maybe even Dutch), although I don't know how many native speakers are a part of this community.

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: From practically anywhere. From Germany (and France, Canada) would be really, really cool too. Although maybe time-consuming and expensive. (That's why email is so A-W-E-sum!) I guess airmail might solve that problem, though.

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: (eg. "food/candy with nuts") Can't really think of much.

What would be in your dream letter or package?: A boyfriend (ha ha, I kid). Maybe music I could play; compositions would be really cool to send back and forth! Or stories to read, etc.

Anything else you'd like to add?: I am incredibly shy and bad at talking to people! But I thought that I would try this anyway, 'cause it's a cool idea and I'm usually better at writing to people than talking to them anyway. I'm a little worried about boring people (like this post, srsly, I can't leave interests and stuff to one-word descriptions, I don't know why!), so sorry if I do, I guess! D:

Picture (optional): Maybe if you ask, I'll point y'all to one/send one.

Hey!

How do you identify?: (sexuality/gender) genderqueer/transmasculine/FTM-ish, almost entirely attracted to girls

Interests/hobbies: marching band, pep band, queer stuff including my university's GLBTxyz organization, linguistics, foreign languages, reading for enjoyment, being on the internet way too much, procrastinating

Favourite books: too many to list, but I especially like fiction-mysteries/detective fiction, young adult fiction/fantasy , novels with queer characters...I'm always open to suggestions/recommendations too

Favourite films: animated movies, comedy, pretty much anything not-scary, but there are a lot of things that end up in the 'scary' category

Favourite music: songs with foreign lyrics, mainly Arabic & French; Disney songs; musicals, particularly Rent & Wicked, among others; extremely random pop songs; instrumental stuff-film scores, sometimes a bit of classical, and I recently discovered a group called the Vitamin String Quartet which does string quartet covers of pop songs

What would you like to send/receive?: emails, IMs, maybe the occasional letter/mix cd/package

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: anybody, really, but I'm definitely interested in hearing from people who don't fit in the gender binary, or transguys. Preferably under 30.

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: anything electronic-wherever, as long as it's in English, or somebody doesn't mind helping me practice my not-entirely-fluent languages (French-pretty good, Arabic-getting there, German's a little rusty); letters/packages-Sorry, but I can't really afford to mail things out of the country right now, so US-only

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: (eg. "food/candy with nuts") food (I love receiving candy, but I just added about 8 things to my list of allergies so that might not be a good idea), anything that can go bad, not too much "adult" stuff

What would be in your dream letter or package?: Stickers! I dunno, surprise me :)

Anything else you'd like to add?: I don't think so...

[identity profile] frauleinslash.livejournal.com

Name: Kate

Age: 18

Location: England

How do you identify?: Bisexual; strictly speaking I'm female, but I'm very androgynous.  That goes for both characteristics and looks; I'm frequently mistaken for a boy at work despite my nametag!  I don't mind, though.  I think I'd make an alright boy.

Interests/hobbies: Writing.  Writing, writing, writing.  Writing.  Did I mention writing?  I think reading naturally comes alongside that, but for introduction's sake, I'll also openly save that I love reading, too.  I'm starting university for the first time in September - terrified but very excited - and I'll be studying English Literature and Creative Writing against the original wishes of my parents; for saying I'm fairly meek, that says a lot about how much I wanted to do it!  At the risk of sounding boring, I also love roleplaying - both forum-based and over IM.  What else can I say?  I'm a casual gamer and Photoshopper, and I love, love, love films.  This also means I have hefty prejudices against rom-coms.

Favourite books: There are far too many to list them all, so I'll stick to my current top six.  In no particular order, I'll say The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, The Beach by Alex Garland, the unexpectedly brilliant The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, even if it does star a character called 'Katniss', the wonderfully original The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist - the Hollywood adaption of which I am quite honestly dreading, seeing as the Swedish version was so beautiful - and the Harry Potter series - alright, so sue me.  If it's not your cup of tea, don't worry; I promise I won't shove it down your throat.  Similarly, I can't stand Twilight or any related thing, but so long as you're not intending on trying to convert me I won't hold it against you.  Everyone's happy!  I'm currently reading The Line of Beauty by Alan Hollinghurst and Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones, and am always looking for recommendations.  I've just realised I left out the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and I am very aware that I deserve some sort of great pain to make up for this.

Favourite films: Again, this is really hard to condense.  I'll give you another top six - again, it's definitely not comprehensive, and I've probably forgotten something I absolutely adore.  Actually, can I give you a top seven instead?  Fight Club, Milk, Kill Bill, V for Vendetta, Edward Scissorhands, the Matrix trilogy and Loving Annabelle.  My top three recent disappointments have been the Harry Potter films - to which I blow a hideously childish raspberry - Burton's Alice in Wonderland and Slumdog Millionaire, which I still believe is completely overrated compared to the book, which I think is a masterpiece.  I think Danny Boyle swings between genius and madness; I thought 28 Days Later was predictable, uninteresting and tired claptrap and he wasted such a great opportunity with his adaption of The Beach, but then again Trainspotting was so good despite some deviance from the book.

I'm really looking forward to Inception.  Chris Nolan is amazing, and Leonardo di Caprio is one of my favourite actors; if he's pulled this concept off right, I think Inception could be as good as The Matrix.  I don't think I'm alone in allowing my inner child to gleefully anticipate Toy Story 3 and Shrek.  Finally, am I allowed two Do-Not-Wants?  Avatar 2 and Eclipse.  The former should remain as a stand-alone film and forget about profit; the latter just needs to be burned.  Now.

Favourite music:
I used to love music a lot more than I do now.  I'm not going to pretend my tastes are indie, because they're obviously not - I worship Gaga - but I don't like most of the stuff I hear on the charts.  I'm at least a little bit more selective than that.  Most of my favourites start with K - Kasabian, the Killers, Katy Perry.  One of my pet hates is when people just say they like The Beatles because they think they have to or because they think it's kitsch to, because I genuinely adore their music - especially the earlier stuff, but I'm not fussy.  What else can I say?  I often use music to inspire my writing, so I also quite like classical music because it's interpretable.  That said, I'm also inspired by Gaga.  Go figure.  I think I should probably have been born in the late forties or late sixties so I could have properly lived through the sixties or the eighties respectively.  My lovely mum tells me my dress sense is very Mary Quant, and I know I'd love the androgyny of the eighties - seeing as music and image are so closely linked, I think I'm allowed to mention that in this section.  Right?

Favourite TV: I'm adding this section because I think it's important for me to be able to mention Doctor Who.  I love it.  The season finale will be airing over here in Blightly very soon, and I'm pretty excited.  I'd call Big Brother a guilty pleasure if I was at all guilty about it - I know most people think it's poppycock now, but I genuinely love it.  I'll take the opportunity to complain about how heartbreaking Shabby/Caoimhe and Mario/Ben are and wave the Mario-shaped winner flag at you just in case you know what I'm talking about.  When Ashes to Ashes finished I cried shamelessly for a very long time - actually, that's one thing you definitely need to know about me.  I'm a crier.  It's not that I'm oversensitive where I'm concerned; it's just that lots of things just seem to break my heart.  You'd be pretty hard-pressed to make me cry by insulting me, but put that picture of the puppy sitting on the road in the rain in front of me and I'll howl.  OK, back on track now.  I love Bones and I'm absolutely obsessed with Miami Ink, though personally I doubt if I'd ever get a tattoo.  They're beautiful and I'm not!  Last but most certainly not least - GLEE.  GLEE.  GLEE.

What would you like to send/receive?: I love snail mail.  It absolutely makes my day getting anything through the post.  If you'd like to get to know each other over IM or e-mail before we swap addresses first, though, that's absolutely fine with me.  I would like it to lead to phsyical letters, though, if at all possible.  I'd love to swap presents - homemade, bought, drawings, love.  Anything.

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: Anybody!  In the words of Evie from V for Vendetta - I don't know who you are, but I love you.  People who share my interests, of course - I'd love a writing writing buddy.  I'm really not fussy, though; if I sound like the kind of person you wouldn't hate and you're into snail mail too, then I'd love to write to you.  I'd like at least one person to write to very frequently; hopefully even weekly.  Is that too much?  Sorry.  Actually, thinking about it, it'd probably be easiest for both of us to talk if we're similar ages; within a five year radius each side, maybe?  Obviously that's flexible.

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: My first language is English, but I do speak and write German.  I won't say fluently, but I have just finished my A-Level in it - actually, I'd love to be able to keep up the language, so writing to someone in German would be lovely.  I probably wouldn't be able to write back as quickly, though; I'd want to check my grammar!  Anywhere, though, really.  The UK, America, Australia?  I don't mind.  Where do you live?

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: Nothing, really.  I don't like cheese.

What would be in your dream letter or package?: Love!  Hm.  Actually, I do have an idea - I'd love a little charm for my keyring to remind me of you, especially if we don't live close so we can't meet up.  I'm so easily pleased.  OK, let me think bigger - dream letter.  OK.  Lady Gaga.  Put Lady Gaga in there for me.  Why not?

Anything else you'd like to add?: I always find it hard to describe myself, so I probably haven't come across very well in this, but I hope you're interested in talking to me anyway.  I'm really looking forward to browsing through everybody else to find people to bother!

Picture (optional): There are plenty of pictures on my Facebook page if you're interested, but here's one to give you the basic idea.  I'm pretty baby-faced, I know; I get IDed all the time. ¬¬

What would you like to send/receive?: Letters, online and/or snail-mail. It feels like forever since I wrote an actual hand-written letter properly that wasn't for an exam, though, so I'd love to write some of those. My handwriting, though, is very... archaic, really, so you might have trouble reading it. :/

Who would you like to receive letters from?: Anybody who can put up with me long enough! Anybody and everybody, pretty much!

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: No Man Utd supporters Just joking, [livejournal.com profile] einsteinflygirl :P My parents aren't particularly generous with pocket money, it has to be said... Anything you would particularly NOT like to receive?: Apart from the obvious (I'm underage, so... No porn or anything sexual, please), food/candy with peanuts, dismembered hands and the like. Not that anyone here would send me a dismembered hand. Or I hope not. Those are my only requests! ^__^

That and:

I love Batman. ^^
