It's only forever, not long at all...
Jun. 23rd, 2010 10:38 amName: Morgaine. Most people I know online call me “Morg” or “Morgues” though.
Age: 27
Location: Washington State, USA
How do you identify?: Awesomesexual. I only want to be with awesome people. More seriously I identify as queer that straddles the line between butch/femme depending on the day and my mood. I’m frustratingly very, very girl-shaped, which is vexing to me because I love cosplaying as men.
Interests/hobbies: ● Costuming ● Cosplay ● Online RPG ● Reading ● Cooking ● too many to list all of them here.
I have a huge, huge love of the 1986 film Labyrinth so almost all of my costuming and cosplay are for that and I almost always go events as Jareth. In tandem with that I love faerie tales and folklore and dream of someday going back to college to major in Folklore & Mythology. I love online fandom RPGing and have been doing that regularly for the last five years. I love to cook and make a lot of bread and am always trying new (vegetarian) recipes. I love reading - my guilty pleasure is reading Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles every year. Purple prose galore and I can't get enough of it.
Favourite books: ● Interview With The Vampire ● The Vampire Lestat ● The Queen of the Damned ● The Vampire Armand ● Labyrinth ● Death In Venice ● Mists of Avalon ● Jane Eyre ● A Perfect Madness ● Smoke and Mirrors ● Frankenstein ● The Secret of NIMH ● The Phantom of the Opera ● Enchantment ● Magic's Pawn ● Magic's Promise ● Magic's Price ● The World Of Faerie ● American Gods ● Stardust ● Love Shook My Heart ● Goblins of The Labyrinth ●
Favourite films: ● Labyrinth ● The Last Unicorn ● Impromptu ● Velvet Goldmine ● My Own Private Idaho ● Merchant of Venice ● The Messenger ● Time Bandits ● Blurred ● Boondock Saints ● The Count of Monte Cristo ● Death In Venice ● Willow ● The Man Who Fell To Earth ● An Affair To Remember ● Nightmare Before Christmas ● Sense and Sensibility ● Moulin Rouge ● Edward Scissorshands ● Last of the Mohicans ● The Game ● Brokeback Mountain ● What Dreams May Come ● Sleepy Hollow ● Hedwig and the Angry Inch ● V For Vendetta ● And Now Ladies And Gentlemen... ● Singin' In The Rain ● Breakfast on Pluto ● Latter Days ● Save Me ● Wilde ● Tristan+Isolde ●
Favourite music: ● David Bowie ● Nightwish ● Sonata Arctica ● HIM ● Paul Schwartz Project ● Sarah Brightman ● Josh Groban ● Libera ● Howie Day ● Silverchair ● Savage Garden ● George Michael ● Emma Shapplin ● Vivaldi ● Enigma ● Panic! At The Disco ● Secret Garden ● Enya ● Faith and the Muse ● Lorenna McKennitt ● Chopin ● Tim Curry ● Charlotte Martin ● Robbie Williams ● Apocalyptica ● Lacuna Coil ● Beethoven ● Our Lady Peace ● Placebo ● The Tragically Hip ● VAST ● Tonic ● Fisher ● Aeone ● The Beatles ● Govinda ● Depeche Mode ● Era ● Madonna ● Magna Canta ● Elton John ● Amethystium ● Collective Soul ● Mozart ● Deep Forest ● Gary Stadler ● Rasputina ● Faeries Peatbog ● Miranda Sex Garden ● Mythos ● Drew Sarich ● Malice In Wonderland ● Epica ● Kamelot ● Foreigner ● Journey ● Heart ● Lady Gaga ● And this is such a small, small list honestly. I used to DJ and have a metric ton of music on my computer. Bowie is always my first music love though. I'd go het for the Bowie for a night, seriously.
What would you like to send/receive?: Letters and postcards are the win. I am so sick of nothing but bills and junk mail in my mailbox! I used to get mail a lot from my girlfriend but now that she lives with me that doesn’t exactly happen, you know? Packages are fun but always dependent on my available funds.
Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: People. People are good. Zombies need not apply. Vampires are okay though. Mostly.
What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: I would be giddy to have someone to write to in Ireland, but honestly anywhere is cool.
Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: Hate mail cramps my style, so none of that.
What would be in your dream letter or package?: A box with a piece of Irish turf. Seriously. That thing would go up on my altar space faster than you can say “wtf?”
Anything else you'd like to add?: I’m kind of a nut. Not in the psycho way but in the quirky way. You can check out my userinfo for more (some of it’s here in this post since cut & paste is handy) and people are always free to ask questions. I’m chill and I don’t bite.
Picture (optional):

I tend to change my hair color/cut every couple of months. Also, a cosplay pic for good measure.

Date: 2010-06-23 10:12 pm (UTC)And I totally get the crossdressing cosplay issues! My character in our Renaissance faire this passed year was pretending to be a guy and tucking the girls in for two straight days was painful!

Date: 2010-06-24 12:04 am (UTC)Okay, I can breath now. I am so excited to run into a kindred spirit! I'm a Mythology & Folklore major. :D How did you get into myths and folklore? Do you have a particular part of the world that's your favorite (in terms of folklore)? I got into it all when I was a kid through Greek mythology, but it was really European fairytales and folklore from the British Isles that reminded me of my love for this sort of thing when I was older. It got me into children's publishing, which is full of myths and fairytale lately.
And can I just say how awesome Labyrinth is? It's the perfect mix of fun and campy and folkloric. Also David Bowie. Tight pants. Nuff said.

Date: 2010-06-24 07:03 am (UTC)Have you read Fire and Hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones? Or Tithe by Holly Black? Those are my favorite retellings/spin-offs. (Also Diana Wynne Jones and Holly Black are awesome writers in general)

Date: 2010-06-25 04:19 pm (UTC)Let's see; favorite part of the world for folklore? I love the British Isles and I also have a soft spot for Russia as well. I'm also keenly interested modern faerie tales and comparing and contrasting them to older ones.
And Labyrinth is actually how I got sucked in the wonderful world of folklore and mythology as a teenager. I grew up on faerie tales and folklore stories ever since I could read as a child and then I saw that film and ate parts of my brains with questions like "Is Jareth a faerie?" From there I ended up reading about the sidhe and things just kind of snowballed from there over the course of the last 15 years.

Date: 2010-06-25 04:23 pm (UTC)I know what you mean about tucking the girls in - I've got a Masquerade ball coming up in three weeks and get to stuff them into a compression vest. July in Los Angeles in 3-4 layers of clothing is always interesting every year I go.
