Name: Ask me :D
Age: 20
Location: USA, Texas and Massachusetts (Home and school, respectively)
How do you identify?: Bisexual, cis female
Interests/hobbies: Reading, writing, late night discussions of profoundly silly things, politics, general geekdom, mythology and folklore, long walks, fencing, kickboxing, knitting, listening to stories, roleplaying, frantically gesticulating, fandoms, trespassing, interesting smells and tastes and colors, surfing the web, things that seemed like a good idea at the time, bad movies, good movies, playing dress up, theater, museums, parks, music, more reading and writing.
Favourite books: I always thought that was an unfair question, like asking which parent you love the most, possibly even in the middle of family dinner. I read a lot of fantasy, all over the subgenre map. Lots of medieval and Renaissance texts, in class and out. History. Poetry, mostly older poetry, but a lot of contemporary speculative (aka sci fi-fantasy-etc influenced) poetry. Some philosophy, mostly where it bumps edges with other things, like linguistics or anthropology or mythology. I adore a good period novel or a good mystery. I like “literary” books, I like beach reads, I like rereading books I loved when I was twelve. I love getting recommendations, and I love giving them. I love chatting about books. Some authors: Dorothy Dunett, Jacqueline Carey, Neal Gaiman, Owen Barfield, Susan Cooper, Kurt Vonegut, Kelly Armstrong, Tolkien, Shakespeare, Patricia McKillip, Geoffrey Ashe, J.K. Rowling, W.B. Yeats, Juliet Marillier, Salman Rushdie, Charles de Lint, Michael Chabon, George R.R. Martin.
Favourite films: The LOTR films, Shakespeare In Love, The Prisoner of Zenda, But I’m a Cheerleader, The Secret of Roan Inish…erm, a bunch more. I have a ridiculous soft spot for dumb movies where things blow up or catch on fire, and an even bigger soft spot for movies in which people wearing silly costumes wave swords around. I would love recommendations for good queer-friendly films, especially ones without Moving Tragic Endings (which are easier to find, but a real downer on a Friday night).
Favourite music: I have pretty eclectic taste in music, though I’m not very good at matching composers to pieces or members to bands. Rock, folk-rock, Baroque, Renaissance, traditional, trad-rock, wooga wooga new age-y, mellow singer-songwriter, peppy pop songs you play in the car when no one else is listening…
TV shows: Firefly, Buffy, The West Wing, Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, Weeds, White Collar, Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me, Torchwood
What would you like to send/receive?: I would be delighted just to swap conversations, trinkets and mix CDs (I have such a weakness for mix CDs), but I’m also really interested in some sort of artistic exchange. Critiques or maybe something cross-medium—you send me a picture, I try to write something about it, vice versa, only with any medium you’re interested in (I, alas, am sadly inept in the visual arts, music and most of the crafty categories). Or, if anyone wanted to, I would love to do RPs or letter games in addition to regular letters.
Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: I think I’ll have to stick to English speakers for now.
What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: Any, though US is most convenient.
Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: (eg. "food/candy with nuts") Nothing that common sense doesn’t cover, I think.
What would be in your dream letter or package?: Something thoughtful.
