Introduction
Aug. 28th, 2010 02:25 pmName: Laura Boo
Age: 29
Location: Montreal, Qc, Canada
How do you identify?: Queer Femme
Interests/hobbies: Reading fiction, letter writing, making zines, crafting (but hardly ever finishing projects, I'm not actually very good at making things), cooking elaborate (vegan/vegetarian) suppers for friends, performing (i am a cabaret artist), DJing, riding my bike(s), getting involved in local activism/politics/organizing.
Favourite books: "Geek Love" by Katherine Dunn, "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert A. Heinlein, "White like Me" by Tim Wise, "The Pain Journal" by Bob Flanagan, "Hairstyles of the Damned" & "Tender as Hellfire" by Joe Meno, "Slaughterhouse 5" by Kurt Vonnegut... so many more!
Favourite films: Twin Falls Idaho, Zatoichi, The Secretary, Fabuleux Destin D'Amelie Poulain, V for Vendetta, Donnie Darko, The Breakfast Club, Moonstruck, Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan Supermasochist, Paris is Burning.
Favourite music: electro, punk, dance-able noise, experimental new music, (indie)rock, hip hop, RnB, retro-pop, old-timey, bluegrass, roma, classical (especially cello centered),
What would you like to send/receive?: snail mail correspondence (letters, post cards, mail art). Would also be interested in exchanging mix tapes (yes tapes) or other creative art projects.
Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: Other queer-identified folks, any gender/race/age. I usually find that within the first few letters, the spark of interest either gets established or not... and I'm always surprised about who I have rapport with, so I'm open minded!
What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: Any. I can correspond best in English, but I can also read French very well and write it (poorly).
Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: I am not particularly interested in romantic involvements, I actually am just a friendly, avid letter writer.
What would be in your dream letter or package?: a long, rambling letter about anything and nothing... maybe punctuated by drawings.
Anything else you'd like to add?: I am a pretty nerdy lady, a major history buff, perhaps a bit of a lefty oddball by some standards. I collect old manual typewriters (i have 10 so far) and run a letter writing club called "The Winter Survival Plan Letter Writing Club" here in Montreal (we get together bi-monthly during the cold months to write letters, eat cookies, drink tea and survive). I am pushing 30 and still love being a penpal, just like when I first started corresponding with folks when I was 10 years old. I've had penpals from all over Canada and the USA. I've corresponded with zinesters, queers, prisoners... I just love to write letters. As long as you keep responding, so will I.
