I have in fact played bass clarinet and love it also. But I'm primarily a clarinetist. I was also (briefly) the alto clarinet in a clarinet choir. I think it's awesome you play bass clarinet. There are too few of you in the world. ;)

lols! Yeah, it's funny I can get a perfect score on hard on the vocals but the stupid bass part is harder on the controller than it is on a real bass.

Have you read Scalzi's The God Engines yet? I haven't gotten to pick it up and I'm curious how different it is from his other stuff.

That's actually the only thing of his I haven't read yet. I'm planning on rewarding myself after I finish the 3 books I need to read for my thesis this summer. Did you read Zoe's Tale? If you did, what did you think of it compared to The Last Colony?

I would highly recommend Zoe's Tale to any of the middle school kids in my robotics club. It's definitely written more in their voice than The Last Colony was. I think it would be a good way to introduce them to Scalzi. I prefer Last Colony though, I think. Zoe's Tale just started off weird to me for some reason and I never could get sucked into it the way I did with the others. Lost Colony kinda started off weird too though.

My favorite of his is Ghost Brigades. I loved the point of view of the Special Forces people. I still introduce everyone to the series through the first book, but the second is the one I would want to pack in my suitcase.

I'm going to see Wicked next week. I haven't read the book yet. I'm trying to decide whether to borrow it first or go to the theater as a virgin. Any suggestions?

Yeah, I agree with you about Zoe's Tale being a great middle/high school book. My favorite of the series is actually Lost Colony, something about the whole community dynamic of Roanoke grabs me. Which is why I kinda liked looking at those events through Zoe's eyes.

The book and the musical are two completely different worlds. I honestly like each of them, but I like them for very different reasons. I'd probably go see the play and then pick up the book because I think you get the basics with the musical and then get more in depth with the book.
