Name: Alexandra, or Alex.
Age: 23.
Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
How do you identify?: Queer, femme, cisgendered female.
Interests/hobbies: Reading, watching films, cooking, RPG gaming (mostly WoW), card games, painting even though I'm terrible at it, tattoos even though I'm too broke for them; archaeology, anthropology, fashion, geology, ecology, mythology, a lot of -ologies.
Favourite books: Equus - Peter Shaffer, The Red Tent - Anita Diamant, Anne of Green Gables - L.M. Montgomery, Brideshead Revisited - Evelyn Waugh, The Birth House - Ami McKay, How the Blessed Live -Susannah M. Smith, Perfume - Patrick Süskind, Veronika Decides to Die - Paulo Coelho, The Gunslinger series by Stephen King, Anaïs Nin, Hermann Hesse, Edith Wharton, William Blake, Stieg Larsson, Michael Ondaatje, Margaret Atwood's dystopian stuff, Hunter S Thompson, Charles Bukowski, Mary Roach, a bunch of nonfiction ranging from ethnobotany to feminism to anthropology to investigative journalism, plays, queer pulp. My tastes are varied and insatiable. My guilty pleasure is the Sookie Stackhouse novels, and my favourite poem is The Cinnamon Peeler.
Favourite films: MirrorMask, Stealing Beauty, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Equus, The Children's Hour, The Court Jester, Sense and Sensibility, Young Frankenstein, The Fountain, Dead Poet's Society, Secretary, The Dreamers, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Rabbit-Proof Fence, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Whale Rider.
Favourite music: I'll listen to pretty much anything, but favourite include New Order, Muse, Depeche Mode, Tegan And Sara, Madeleine Peyroux, Sarah McLachlan, Goldfrapp, Thievery Corporation, Peter Gabriel, anything Brody Dalle does, The Tea Party, Iron & Wine, Massive Attack, Florence + The Machine, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Peaches. I also love a lot of classic rock and 90's alternative, and my Last.FM top played this week is Christina Aguilera's new album, so yeah.
What would you like to send/receive?: Anything and everything! Letters, postcards, memorabilia, pressed flowers, photos, paitings, anything you can think of. I'm absolutely terrible at replying to emails, but I'll make a special effort if that's what you're into.
Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: Anyone who can pour their heart into a letter and be silly and kind. English speakers are required because I'm terrible at learning new languages and my french is disgraceful.
What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: Anywhere!
Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: Anything is awesome. Nothing heavily scented with flowery things though, as my nose is a bit senstitive, and nothing horror-themed as my brain is a bit sensitive.
What would be in your dream letter or package?: A letter discussing my penpal's most recent philosophical discovery, a recommendation for a great film they just watched, some photos from a recent trip they took to an awesome place in their city, a thin used book of poetry or a play, a mix cd or a written playlist, and a badass recipe for vegan chocolate cake.
Anything else you'd like to add?: I tend to get wordy and romantic in my letters, so if you get really irritated by that sort of thing, I'm probably not for you. I have this undying fondness for the way people who were close used to write letters to each other, with their whole heart. I try not to be pretentious, but lord knows it slips out sometimes. I can occasionally go completely the other way and start calling people "man" and "dude", but it doesn't happen much in writing. I also have fibromyalgia and CFIDS, and while I don't generally whine about it in my letters, it can make quick replies impossible sometimes, so you may have to put up with a short letter with a pressed flower, or something like that from time to time. I also have panic disorder, but that doesn't really relate to my letter-writing unless you are a fellow sufferer who would like someone to talk to about it.
Also my handwriting is terrible, but I do it anyway.
It's hard to take a picture of yourself without it looking like a MySpace angle, man.
