australian living in singapore
Jun. 27th, 2010 08:05 pmName: Ginny
Age: 19
Location: Singapore, but I move back Down Under in a couple of months
How do you identify?: Lesbian
Interests/hobbies: I've been horseriding competitively since I was a kid in Singapore, and then on and off in Australia. I play polo now, and spend my time people-watching in cafés, writing little scraps of prose or scribbling on napkins, and I'm picking up a photography course. I have a few more months before I commence university, so I've been spending it getting to know my family and experiencing new things. I like to read, I've tried my hand at flower arrangement, but I really like getting to know more about people and their lives; I like to think that it's a way of living life out of your hometown, or taking things out of perspective. I've learnt a lot by just listening to other people's stories.
Favourite books: Most of Margaret Atwood's work, Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami, and The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb (which remains to this date one of the hardest-hitting books, emotionally, that I've ever read).
Favourite films: Rear Window, American Beauty, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Fight Club, The Lovely Bones, Serenity
Favourite music: Sparklehorse, Metric, The Glitch Mob, Rachmaninoff, The xx, Margot and the Nuclear So and So's, Manchester Orchestra, Neon Trees, Beethoven, Ella Fitzgerald
What would you like to send/receive?: Emails at first, I think. Anything, really. Though I collect postcards, so eventually they'll factor in?
Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: Anyone. Goes without saying that I wouldn't want anything creepy, though.
What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: Any country is fine, though I'm proficient only in English. My partner and I have plans to move to either America or the United Kingdom, so penpals from those would be great.
Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: Porn, for one? Food, too. Other than that, it's all cool.
What would be in your dream letter/package?: Something that makes me go "I get that/ I know what that's like/ God, this person is brilliant."
Picture (optional): Once we've made first contact, I'll gladly send you one :)
I'm attached, partner-wise, but I would like to get to know other people in the large internet/worldspace known as the LGBT community. Singapore, well, isn't exactly the best environment to come out or to live as an 'out' lesbian, and my partner and I have plans to live elsewhere rather soon (as I said, either the US, the UK, or Australia) and it would be good to get to know people from those parts of the world and what their lives are like too.
