Name: V
Age: 23
Location: Finland
Zodiac Sign:
Sun: Gemini
Rising: Cancer
Moon: Aquarius
Rabbit in Chinese astrology.
How do you identify?:
A gentleman. Androgyne, very much in to male aesthetics anyway. Born female but never really felt like one (on the other hand how should a female feel like, then? I don't know). Like to dress in old-fashioned men's clothing. I guess I'm something in between. I have reached the state of mind where I just feel like a unique entity without any labels whatsoever. Mostly drawn to men and manly/androgyne women, but I don't think genders matter that much - I love everyone beautiful and inspiring. I'm generally not very interested in sex.
Interests/hobbies:
Travelling, hiking, solitude, silence, steam engines, film cameras, classic cars, seaweed, mysticism, found objects, tea-drinking, random activism; Swimming in the lake, making firewood, learning new things, combing through fleamarkets and antique fairs; All sorts of things. I'm a bookbinder and an exceptionally lousy painter. I wish I had more energy to paint, I still have dozens of unfinished boards from 2007 or 2008. Sometimes I just can't get myself together. Drawing, painting, arts and crafts are all part of my everyday life. Things I really need to learn: Welding, woodworking, rare languages, how to use a chainsaw.
Favourite books:
Osamu Dazai: Tsugaru (everything by Osamu Dazai, really), Emily Brontë: Wuthering Heights, Gavriil Troyepolsky: Belyi Bim Chernoe Ukho, Roddy Doyle: Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha, Ted Hughes: Hawk in the Rain, Vladimir Nabokov: Lolita, Daniil Kharms: Incidences, Annie Proulx: The Shipping News, nonfiction, biographies. The only manga I obsess about is Saiyuki by Kazuya Minekura - especially Gaiden. I like books. I make them, read them, sketch in them, collect them... yes.
Favourite films:
Miller's Crossing, Stalker, Winterguest, My Beautiful Laundrette, Chungking Express, Priest, The Big Lebowski, Hiroshima Mon Amour, Man of Aran, The Ballad of Jack and Rose, Das Kabinett Des Doktor Caligari, There Will Be Blood, Farewell My Concubine. Films are an important part of my life, and a constant source of inspiration.
Favourite music:
Folksy indie combined with old school hc/77/anarcho-punk? I listen to so many different artists that it's almost schizophrenic. Some of my favourite obsessions are Graham Coxon, British Sea Power, Rudimentary Peni, F-Minus, Pulp, Blur, Bowerbirds, Kino, David Bowie, Jethro Tull, DDT, Valse Triste, Patti Smith... argh, you can just go and check my Last.fm profile. I mostly listen to my vinyl records though.
What would you like to send/receive?:
First I'd like to get to know people via the Internets. I love handwritten/typewritten letters, drawings, random meaningful postcards, mixtapes/mix CDs. I also do mail art & swap decos so if you know what this means, let's swap. Sometimes I'm really eager to exchange thoughts but sometimes I just don't feel like writing anything, so our trading/writing should be kind of stress-free, quite random, and maybe also based on LJ friendship or something like that. I do read LJ regurlarly and try to get back into writing entries too.
Who would you like to send and receive mail from?:
Anyone who thinks we have something in common! Especially artists. Likeminded individuals, shy & quiet people, dreamers, travelers, earth-lovers, recyclers, outsiders, tomboys, males and females, antique aficionados, girls who are boys who like boys to be girls who did boys like they're girls etc. I'm especially interested in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Japan. I tend to travel in the UK a lot, I just can't get enough of the moors, the sea and the foliage.. I would love to have a friend there. For some reason I'm very interested in Japanese culture too (not that much anime/manga, but other things). Honestly, any country is fine with me.
Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?:
Pornographic stuff ..or postcards with babies on them. Ha ha
What would be in your dream letter or package?:
Any kind of artwork by you, a mixtape or a mix CD, enthusiastic and inspired/inspiring thoughts, ink pen nibs, antique buttons, cabinet portraits, handdrawn Artist Trading Cards, interesting fabric or paper scraps, glass beads, vintage pictures or postcards of trains/ships/aircrafts! I like all things proper and beautiful.
Anything else you'd like to add?:
I'm afraid I'm a bit difficult. I'm very absent-minded and sometimes have a hard time writing anything proper, no matter how much I'd love to stay in contact with someone. I also tend to disappear inside my own world / travels / forest walks for days, weeks or months and completely forget about even the most basic forms of human contact. I'm very introspective, a bit of a melancholic, don't embrace any religion in particular, always seeking a certain kind of connection with people. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. This being said, don't be scared to approach me!
