Please, save me 8l
Mar. 30th, 2011 06:27 pmSo. through an unfortunate set of circumstances, I find myself in my crushingly boring hometown instead of halfway across the world studying in Japan. As such, I meed distractions. And there's no better a distraction than writing letters.
Name: Tom Williams/Sasha/that tall guy with the hair
Age: 20, 21 in May, 5 in my head
Location: Central/Southern Indiana, depending on the time of year.
How do you identify?: (sexuality/gender) Pansexual human. I'm still working through stuff, as I always plan to be :)
Interests/hobbies: Theatre, theatre, theatre. Poetry, poetry, poetry. Odd/eclectic music and instruments, writing/reading, parody, art/crafting (specifically Perler Beads!), biking, cooking, photography, singing, science-fiction, anything large-scale that could possibly brighten peoples' day. I am also an avid collector of antique books, and have quite the collection ranging from 1858 to 1948.
Favourite books: Pretty much anything by Margaret Atwood, Douglas Aams or Clive Barker. The Bartimaeus Trilogy, The year of Yes, Choke, Pink Think, As I Lay Dying, The Great Gatsby, Maggie: Girl of the Streets, Beowulf, The Saga of the Volsungs. I haven't had much time for personal reading lately, as I'm still recovering from burnout after two years of lit classes, so I'm woefully out-of-touch with current literary standards (but excitingly in-touch with VIKINGS, HELL YEAH). Poetry by Andrea Gibson, Ken Arkind, X. J. Kennedy, Ezra Pound and e. e. cummings.
Favourite films: Shortbus, Ten-Inch Hero, The Notebook, Sin City, Cashback. Indie/experimental films, and I'm a sucker for cheesy romances :p Genre-defying movies, character studies, vignette collections and arthouse films always rate well with me too. I usually love films that leave my brain in a smouldering lump on the floor XD
Favourite music: Hnnnnnng, SO MUCH. A cappella. Twee. Ridiculous '60s French pop. Generally, the more interesting the music is, the more I'll like it - I have a really intense interest in strange/unique instruments and instrumentation, and have a thing for broken voices. I like almost anything with piano or violin, foreing traditional music, and bands that are both embarrassingly hipster-y and embarrassingly mainstream. My three favorites are most likely Sigur Ros, Neutral Milk Hotel and Sufjan Stevens, and others include Arcade Fire, Akeboshi, Beirut, Ben Folds, Counting Crows, Epik High, Gogol Bordello, The Goo Goo Dolls, Jack's Mannequin, Michelle Branch, Owl City, Regina Spektor, Jonsi, Tori Amos, The xx.
OH YEAH, AND I FUCKING LOVE SHOW TUNES.
What would you like to send/receive?: Letters, interesting trinkets, decorated envelopes, keychains, mix CDs, books, postcards, newspaper clippings, mix CDs, recipes, college newspapers/magazines...pretty much anything.
Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: I seem to get on best with women, but I'm open to absolutely anyone. I'd love to be a pelpal with a transperson, though :x or possibly someone who works in the sex industry, just because I have SO MAY QUESTIONS to ask them about it. Also, anyone who can speak Icelandic.
What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: Anywhere I can afford to send regular mail to on a college student's budget. That is to say...America :( If you're from somewhere else, though, that's what the internet is for!
Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: (eg. "food/candy with nuts") Religious stuff, unless it's really old and/or lulzy.
What would be in your dream letter or package?: Music, poetry, a word puzzle or two, a day in the life of your town, and just good conversation ^_^
Anything else you'd like to add?: I'm very easily excitable, so if I ever rave to you about anything, expect it to be about two-thirds as great as I say it is.

Date: 2011-03-30 11:58 pm (UTC)I collect antique books as weeeeell! :D
Though I collect a lot of things...soo this part of my collection tends to be rather scant.
I also totally hear you about being burnt out on reading due to college lit. classes. I've tried to pick up one of the many books I have laying around I need to read but I just can't bring myself to do it. Going to try and brave it this summer. :B
I would link you to my profile on here but I probably couldn't find it. But if you wanna swap letters/mix CDs just PM me. O:

Date: 2011-07-07 04:07 am (UTC)I'm not sure we have super whole lot in common, other than a love of reading and old books. But I figure you can never have too many friends or letters. :) Besides, we might a shared love of something...lol
So, if you're still open for a new pen pal, I would love to exchange letters.
