Hi all

I’m looking for some penpals for my partner, snail and / or email.
We are fairly introvert but social so don’t have many other friends and most the friends we have are straight.
We are a married female couple.
The reason I’m looking for pen-pals
Because my partner has been through many struggles in life, and I feel they’d benefit from someone that doesn’t know us personally in which she can confide and ask for advice and hopefully make some new friends along the way.

A bit about her:
She is an Asian lady (Indian) and struggles with the fact her family, friends and community has turned their back to her sexuality, this is a very heart-breaking situation for her that she bottles up.
She is in her late 30s and a survivor, having faced problem after problem in her life.

We own pets and like animals a lot, though she didn’t really have pets growing up but now owns them with me.

Preferred pen-pal
Preferably females of the LGBT community, possibly gay men.
Any ages but over 25s preferred.
Anywhere around the world.
If you are also Indian it’s a plus due to the things you can relate to, I’m non Asian and sometimes it’s a barrier in certain areas, but really any ethnicity.

I hope to hear from someone, somewhere.

Thanks for your time

How do you identify?: At the moment, I identify as non-binary. It's a pretty recent realization and I'm not sure what it means regarding my sexual identity, yet.

Interests/hobbies: I read a lot of fiction and also some books on society, gender studies, queer studies, literary history and literary theory. I play classical music and sing in a feminist choir. I'm very much into Postcrossing, which is sending postcards to strangers around the world, but I also really like receving mail from people I actually know. I'm interested in literature, gender studies, queer studies, queer theory, Ireland and many other things. I'm in some fandoms, e.g. Harry Potter, BBC Sherlock and Lord of the Rings. I drink a lot of tea and use most of my little amount of extra money on books and tea.

Favourite books: The Harry Potter series (I'm a huge fan!), Oscar Wilde's work (especially his plays), Emma Donoghue's novels, Sarah Water's novels, Donna Tartt's The Secret History, Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. James Joyce's The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Of course the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Wilslava Szymborska's poems. Stephen Fry's novels, especially Making History. For Finnish writers: Pirkko Saisio and Johanna Sinisalo are my favourites. Recently, I have been reading and enjoying Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Half of a Yellow Sun, J.K. Rowling's A Casual Vacancy, Tove Janssons' Moomin stories and Jonas Gardell's Torka aldrig tårar utan handskar -series (about people with AIDS in Sweden in the 80s). I'm very interested in hearing about your favourite books and authors!

Favourite films: I have seen a lot fewer films than read books... The Man in the Iron Mask is one of my all-time favourites. Wilde, where Stephen Fry plays Oscar Wilde is phenomenal. V for Vendetta, Apollo 13 and The Lord of the Rings movies. I'm quite excited about the Hunger Games movies.

Favourite music: I'm not sure if I have a genre I prefer over all others. Recently I have been listening to Disco Enseble, Gossip, Gogol Bordello, Clann Zú and System of a Down.

What would you like to send/receive?: Letters and postcards! Snail mail, preferably. I can also send (and wouldn't mind receving) samples of tea or candy.

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: Anyone, really. I'd love to talk to people outside the gender binary, but seriosly, if anyone answers my introduction, I'll be thrilled!

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: Any country.

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: No, I can't really think of anything, besides the obvious ones, like hate mail or very unkind messages, or sexual content without any negotation about it.

What would be in your dream letter or package?: Well, possibly both a postcard and a letter, filled with your thoughts about literature, music, art, gender, your life and anything you wish to tell me. Perhaps also a bag or a few spoonfuls of your favourite tea for me to sample while reading what you have written.

Anything else you'd like to add?: If you are shy about giving me your home address, we can also exchange emails first! Or I can give you my address first, or we can become FB-friends or anything that makes you comfortable. If you are not into writing long letters, postcardfriends are highly appriciated, too! Contact me here or on my email (sinipiika@outlook.com). Oh, and my journal here is only in Finnish, so although I'd love to read your entries, mine won't make much sense to you if you don't speak Finnish.

Jeffrey Eugenides, Ray Bradbury, Kurt Vonnegut, Thisbe Nissen, sometimes Augusten Burroughs, Tom Robbins, Carson McCullers, Henrik Ibsen, Zadie Smith, Anita Diamant. What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to? Wherever, whenever.

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive? That which might get me arrested?

What would be in your dream letter or package? Taxidermy, an awesome letter, a hand-crafted piece of jewelry utilizing found objects, a map of a town I've never been to, or basically anything. I get excited to get mail. Period. End of subject.

Ok, let's get this going. I had set something up with a would be pen pal several months ago, but she has since abandoned LJ. Sad days. Here's hoping this time goes better.

Name: Machelle

Age: Turned 25 in April

Location: Oklahoma

How do you identify?: (sexuality/gender) I don't see the point in labels, but if I did it would be bisexual

Interests/hobbies: I love to read, write, doodle, watch my favorite old tv shows on dvd *cough*Golden Girls*cough*, and listen to music. I also go through crafty phases every now and then. I can crochet, knit, sew, and my Mom is teaching me to quilt...though we may kill each other before it's all over... I also love taking pictures and scrapbooking. Oh! and movie quotes, my love for movie quotes should probably have it's own bullet point. Tattoos, I have three and have several more planned.

Favourite books: Quite a few classics, but most are from Medieval to Renaissance literature. Anything by Amy Tan. I like pretty much all of Kim Harrison's and Laurell K. Hamilton's stuff. Gone with the Wind and Scarlett. I just bought Full Dark No Stars by Steven King, and the Game of Thrones. I'm in the middle of an amazing biography on Cleopatra by someone Schiff...I think. Love it. Also, I have the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks next to my laptop. I read just about everything and almost always have at least one book within reaching distance, even if it's just on my phone...Because let's be for real. Smart phones that double as e-readers? Best Thing EVER.

Favourite films: Oh. This is going to be all sort of trouble I can tell. Well, to start out, I love and collect almost any Disney movie from my childhood. My favorite is Beauty & the Beast, I was beside myself when it was re released this year. Little Mermaid, Tarzan, Emperor's New Groove, the Aladdin trilogy, Aristocats, and Anastasia! My non animated movies favorites consist of several trilogies : LOTR, Matrix, the Rush Hours. I also love old school movies. Gidget, any Doris Day movie, Yours Mine and Ours, the one with Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda. White Christmas. Movies with Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin. And who doesn't love a good comedy or romcom? Sister Act. Two Weeks Notice. Last Holiday. The Holiday. Pretty much anything Sandra Bullock or Queen Latifah have done. This is getting ridiculous. Lets just say I love movies and leave it at that. I will quickly say that Supernatural and Golden Girls are my two favorite shows, and I also believe Joss Whedon to be a god among men...'nough said. Oh! And don't forget musicals! Never could! Producers. Wicked. Cats. Rent. those are my favorites.

Favourite music: Who can pick? I listen to just about everything. No really. Lol. I used to qualify that with the statement that I didn't listen to rap, but my bf has decided that as a ginger, and the only white best friend she has ever had that I need some swag lessons...which are failing spectacularly, in case you were curious. So now I own and like a couple cds by Nikki Minaj, Drake, Chris Brown, and some other people that I just can't remember. Country. Pop. Hip Hop. Rap. Trance. Classical. some Techno. Lots of Gregorian Chant. Musicals, I lump this in here because I have listened to more soundtracks than plays I have actually seen live, but I love them all. Fabulous stuff, this music that sings to our souls.

What would you like to send/receive?: Letters. Postcards. Pictures. fun stuff.

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: Pretty much anyone 19+

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: Oh anywhere would be exciting.

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: (eg. "food/candy with nuts") I opposed to pretty much any food stuff. It tends not to make it to its destinations. I only know this because I sent a few care packages home from England when I spent a semester in the UK, and some of the candy didn't make it home. So, that means someone in Customs on the UK or US side grabbed a snack, bloody thieves. Just sayin'.

What would be in your dream letter or package?: A letter that makes me smile and is full of heart felt words and empty of judgments.

Anything else you'd like to add?: Yup. Can anyone tell me why Youtube doesn't have a repeat button? Seriously. It would make my life sooooo much easier...no lie. Also, I should apologize for the ellipsis in advance...lol.

This is me :)

What would be in your dream letter or package?: My dream package would be in some cute ass stationary like Hello Kitty and with a zine or mixtape. A letter with doodles or maybe a comic someone made would be awesome.

Anything else you'd like to add?: I'm agnostic but would love to hear from people into philosophy and theology. I've honestly been researching a lot about religions in India so I would love to discuss that. I'm EXTREMELY liberal. I'm a pro choice black feminist. I'm OBSESSED with Hello Kitty and fashion. I'm really sensitive and weird. I can crochet. I'm trying to learn the guitar but I'm lazy as hell. I'm also a vegetarian. I hope to meet some awesomesauce folk. Anybody who's into politics (Anarchism, Communism, Socialism things of that nature and societal stuff) should definitely come talk to me :D because I'm really into that stuff and would love to learn more. I'm also a very vulgar and TMI person lol. This post was really off, sowwy <3

 Name: Jazzi

Age: 19 and 1/2

Location: Indiana

How do you identify?: I haven't quite figured this out yet.  I am female and closer to femme than to butch.  I am attracted to people who are intelligent, kind, and share my social and political values with little regard to outward appearance.

Interests/hobbies:  I like to knit, write, read (obviously), send obnoxiously full envelopes, record myself reading poems and poetry onto cassette tapes, draw badly, stare at the cute girl in my feminism class, and cuddle with people who are having a bad day.

Favourite books:  Wicked, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, and Mirror, Mirror by Gregory Maguire; A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray; Trickster's Choice by Tamora Pierce; Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling; The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood; Possession by A. S. Bayatt; The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova; Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; Full-Frontal Feminism by Jessica Valenti; Yes Means Yes by Jaclyn Friedman and Jessica Valenti; The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir; ... A lot of other things ...

Favourite films:  I haven't seen as many movies as I wish I had.  I love children's movies because I believe that the relationships are so much more believable, the humor is more light-hearted, and because I very rarely leave feeling badly about myself.

Favourite music:  I like music that is light-hearted and upbeat, generally speaking, especially folk.  Again, I am not as well-versed in music as I would like to be.  Some of the bands I listen to frequently include Mumford and Sons, Sunset Rubdown, Iron & Wine, Josh Ritter, Kimya Dawson, The Bird and the Bee, and Andrea Gibson.  (Does spoken word poetry count?  It has lyrics ...)

What would you like to send/receive?: I can knit hats and scarves, I write stories and poems for people, I make awful paintings, I tear things out of magazines, and I can record myself reading stories for you.  I'd like to send tangible letters and gifts, but I would also be okay with e-mail, since it's faster and more convenient for some people.

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: Anyone who is kind, has an interest in arts and/or politics, and wants to send and receive mail from me, naturally.

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?:  Any at all

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: Anything with animal products:  I'm vegan

What would be in your dream letter or package?: Tea bags, lovely stories about someone's life, colorful photographs or paintings, small perfume samples, and genuine affection

Anything else you'd like to add?: I'm very shy at first.  Please don't let that scare you off.

Picture: Yay, belly dancing!

> How do you identify?: Lesbian

> Interests/hobbies: Reading, writing poetry, listening to music and playing guitar, watching movies, letterboxing (like Geocaching but without the GPS), knitting/crocheting, traveling, studying literature, history, languages, and more.

> Favourite books: I have so many, but here are a few: "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett, "Book of Hours" by Rilke, anything by Linda Pastan, the Stieg Larsson books, Geraldine Brooks' "People of the Book," "The Never-Ending Story," Radclyffe's medical dramas, and most recently, a lot of noir detective fiction.

> Favourite films: La Belle et la Bete, Star Wars, Devil Wears Prada (because I think Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway are both pretty attractive), Firefly series, Farscape series, + so many more.

> Favourite music: pretty much anything depending on what mood I'm in.  Lately I've been listening to a lot of classical music featuring cellos (a phase, I'm sure) but I've been mixing in some modern rock and alternative, folk-rock, moldy oldies, and some lite R&B/HipHop.  I'm pretty much all over the charts on this one.

> What would you like to send/receive?: snail mail's good. Mix cds are always fun. Pictures, bookswaps, these are all good.  Interesting articles.  Poems you like.  Funny ads you see in magazines.  Whatever.  :)

> Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: people I find interesting. Probably would prefer to stick to the queer female. 20-35, I'd think for starters.

> What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: Any.  I've been studying Hebrew and Greek, so if anyone wants to practice their English with me and let me practice my Greek or Hebrew with them (and are very very brave, as I am not fluent), that'd be cool too.

> Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: (eg. "food/candy with nuts"). Nothing illegal or sexual, please.

> What would be in your dream letter or package?: I haven't thought about it that much, I guess. Thoughts, funny stories, just your basic "get to know you" kind of stuff.  Random bits of interesting things (I sometimes send photos I've taken or poems/articles I find interesting or funny).

> Anything else you'd like to add?: I don't think so. If you're interested, let me know.

Hi again!

Here I am, reposting.  My old entry is here, if you're interested.

Name:
  Melanie

Age:  19

Location:  Missouri, United States

How do you identify?:  It's complicated.  We can discuss it later.  :P

Interests/hobbies:
Music, video games (sometimes), art (more looking at it than creating it, these days), movies, writing, researching/looking at Wikipedia, reading (sometimes), people watching, vinyl (you know, records), typewriters, similar "old" things, yard sales (I'm a total old lady), defacing/destroying clothes, punk rock...  I spend most of my time just sitting around listening to music/on the internet/playing Sims 2.  It really is riveting.

Favourite books:  A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess, American on Purpose by Craig Ferguson, Nineteen Eighty-Four  by George Orwell, Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs by John Lydon, Touching From a Distance by Deborah Curtis, Mysterious Skin by Scott Heim, On The Road by Jack Kerouac, anything by J.D. Salinger, anything by Charles Bukowski, anything by Chuck Palahniuk...  I've been getting into The Beat Generation, lately.  I like reading about people's life stories, too.  I'm not into young adult books at all, really (don't even get me started on Twilight).  My library's somewhat lacking (I do live in Missouri), so it's hard for me to find really great books, unless they're insanely cheap on Amazon, haha.

Favourite films:  A Clockwork Orange, Control (2007 film), Mysterious Skin, 1984 (1984 film), Bad Education (La mala educación), Zerophilia, Fight Club, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, The Adventures of Sebastian Cole, Snatch, Lock, Stocks, and Two Smoking Barrels, etc, etc.  I watch a ton of movies, but it's been a while since I've seen something amazing.  I'd love to swap some suggestions, though.  :D

Favourite music:  My last.fm page.  But if you lack ambition, here's a summary:  Punk rock's my life (to put it simply), but I generally listen to stuff from the 70's and 80's.  I'm real into post-punk and glam rock and ska and electronica and stuff like that.  You probably really should click on that link.  Some bands I like, though:  Joy Division, David Bowie, The Clash, The Fall, Wire, Bauhaus, Public Image Ltd., The Cure, Richard Hell, Gang of Four, Televsion, Buzzcocks, Iggy Pop, The Vibrators, T. Rex, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, Tricky, Tiga, Violent Femmes, Serge Gainsbourg, The Specials, Psychotica, Glampire, LCD Soundsystem, etc (not in that order).  If we have simliar taste in music, I do like to talk about it quite a bit.

What would you like to send/receive?:  Emails, IMs (I can be pretty slow to reply and boring, but if that's your thing...), mix CDs/mixtapes (when I get a good cassette player/boombox-type thing), snail mail... If you live outside of the US, though, I'm probably not sending you any packages.  I'm lazy/cheap.  And my handwriting's hard to read, so I prefer to type letters on one of my typewriters.  But really, that's subjective...

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?:  Anyone who's willing to put in the effort.  :P

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?:  Anywhere!  I'm really interested in Canada and the UK, so.... yeah.  But anywhere's great!  :D  (I only speak English, though.  My French is really too pitiful to carry on a conversation.)

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?:  Uh... food.

What would be in your dream letter or package?:
Art/writing.  You know, something created.  Handmade things and all that cal.  I get attached to weird little things like erasers and office supplies, too, so that could work.  XD

Anything else you'd like to add?:
I'm pretty slow to reply sometimes.  Slow as in like, 10 days.  So, sometimes I might need a little nudge to get going.

Picture:
All of my pictures suck/are a couple years old.  (But if you do a little cyberstalking, you're bound to come across some.)

What would you like to send/receive?:  I would love a penpal who likes to exchange small gifts like stickers, post cards, a hand made bracelet... things like that.. It's not a requirement though, as long as my penpal has something interesting to say and will write at least once a month, though I understand that things come up some times and we don't get a letter out as fast as we had planned.

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: Anyone! As long as they are open minded and can hold a good conversation on paper.

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: Anywhere in the world! I LOVE international penpals, but ones in my own country are fun too because the letters come and go faster.

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?:
(eg. "food/candy with nuts") Uhmmm I don't know.. I'm not too picky, I'd just appreciate that my penpal thought of me enough to send me a gift!

What would be in your dream letter or package?: A nice long letter, maybe some stickers, stamps, or something like that.. I love surprises, so I can't rightly say.

Anything else you'd like to add?: Contact me soon! =D I'm itching to write!

Name: Luce

Age:
26

Location:
Illinois

How do you identify?:
Lesbian

Interests/hobbies:
I take to a fiddle now and then but I'd hardly call it playing. I like hiking, kayaking, tabletop RPGs, some computer games, getting lost in the forest, studying language and assorted other things (helpful and less than-), working at the local library, feeding the neighborhood cats and tending to my tiny garden.

About me:
I read to a fault, I'm one of those people who reads while they're walking or watching something or waiting in line. I love to read fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction, anthropology, instruction manuals or whatever I find laying about. I think baking with the right person can be sexy and adventurous. I can be embarrassingly easy-going because I believe there is a subtle grace to the way that things unfold and I love to see where life takes me. This may all makes me sound very adventurous but in fact I'm pretty passive. I would prefer pomegranate tea and a good book near the window to the outside world any day.

Favorite books:
This question is just too hard!

Favourite films:
I really enjoy low-budget, corny movies - especially thrillers. I really like to watch documentaries, old noir and black and whites.

Favorite music:
I'll listen to almost anything. I love global music. I'm not a big fan of rap or some country-western. Right now I'm really enjoying "gypsy punk", jazz fusion and old southern spirituals.

What would you like to send/receive?:
I'm open to anything. I'd love to share seeds or recipes, puzzles, mix CDs, collages, sketches or knitting. I would really love to make friends with whom I could exchange stories in letter form.

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?:
I'd love to hear from anyone who feels like writing.

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?:
Any and all.

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?:
I'm pretty open...I would prefer that the outside of the mailing be discreet, as I live in a conservative area and it's not entirely safe to share my identity here.

What would be in your dream letter or package?:
I would love to have a regular pen pal with whom I could exchange riddles. I have a lot of spare time in which I create cryptograms. If this sounds way too geeky for you I completely understand.

Picture (optional):
I'm not completely comfortable with sharing my identity here due to aforementioned conserve small town living.

Anything else you'd like to add?:
I've been watching this community and I think the idea is wonderful. It would be nice to forge friendships with others nearby or far away. It's amazing to think that perhaps by sharing our lives with internet strangers we can all be a little less isolated.

Age:
22

Location:
Albany or Long Island, New York

How do you identify?:
(sexuality/gender) Lesbian leaning towards pansexual all wrapped with the added confusion of being a trans female who identifies as gendqueer. If you were able to make sense of all that, please help me figure out the labyrinth. I would greatly appreciate it.

Interests/hobbies:
Hmm. This could take awhile and I am trying to do this in a way that doesn’t make me seem boring. Well, first and foremost I am writer and most of my hobbies float around that and being a nerd. So, I spend a lot of time maintaining my blogs (although my LJ has fallen to the wayside), writing poetry, or working on my memoir. The rest of time is occupied with hanging out with friends, playing Magic the Gathering, or playing games on Steam. I am a huge nerd, so comics and video games and anime and manga are all aces in my book.

Favourite books:
The Perks of Being a Wallflower, A Clockwork Orange, The Alcoholic, The Watchmen, Transmetropolitan, Bi Any Other Name, My Gender Workbook, Worst, and way too many other things to announce. Its mainly a huge mixture of manga, comics, graphic novels, gender studies, and whatever sparks my interest.

Favourite films:
This will be the extremely short list otherwise this would be extremely long to read. Clerks, Mallrats, Red Dawn, Fame(the original), Half Baked, The Matrix, Fight Club, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, But I’m a Cheerleader, Camp

Favourite music:
System of a Down, Bayside, Common, Daft Punk, Asian Kung Fu Generation, Rip Slyme, Nine Inch Nails, Monkey Magick, Yoshida Brothers, Gorillaz, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Streetlight Manifesto, Big D and the Kids Table.. Ok so this could go on forever and I don’t think you’d get what I like. I listen to everything from punk rock to j pop. It all just depends on my mood. So if you like something I will probably will also.

What would you like to send/receive?:
As far sending goes I have no real preference. Just ask and I will try to accommodate. The same goes for receiving. There is nothing I would mind getting. I am a fairly creative person so the more creative the better. But don’t feel pressured

Who would you like to send and receive mail from?:
To be completely honest, anyone. I mean, I am a social butterfly, so I love just meeting and getting to know all people.

What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?:
This is the only time I am going to sound selfish. I would love to get mail from anywhere in the world, but my funds are limited. So, I will try to work anywhere but I can’t guarantee it will be speedy.

Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?:
(eg. "food/candy with nuts")

What would be in your dream letter or package?:
Um, well anything super creative. Otherwise, send me your dream letter or package. That will probably make me the happiest. No lie.

Anything else you'd like to add?:
UM. That I can think of. Just have fun, I know I will.
