What would you like to send/receive?: E-mails, Instant Messages (my meds don't allow my hands to stay steady enough to write properly anymore)
Who would you like to send and receive mail from?: People with similar interests.
What countries would you like to receive mail from and send to?: Anywhere really, as long as English is used- mainly because I have only two years of French from high school (a decade ago), one single semester of German, pitiful Portuguese (my family are from Brasil, and while I can understand it spoken to me, about 60-70%, I'm terrible in speaking/writing it back), and I have only done one self-taught unit/chapter of Norwegian [Bokmål]. I wouldn't mind getting mail/packages from anywhere, but I am pitifully unemployed and don't have money to send out mail/packages internationally- therefore I'd prefer e-mails and instant messaging, because then no one is left out on the mail/package side.
Anything that you would particularly NOT like to receive?: If someone really truly wants to send me something and can't be dissuaded, please don't send me food unless it is confirmed with me. My meds have totally ruined my appetite to the point that the wonderful things I used to love to eat taste particularly revolting to me and don't stay down. So if you're going to send food, ask me first. I'll tell you what'll stay in my stomach. I'd hate for food to be wasted.
What would be in your dream letter or package?: mix cd, zines (preferably having to do with queer goodness or mental illness/mental health), pocky, fortune cookies- anything really...
Anything else you'd like to add?: Just in case I've confused everyone here by my references to meds- I'll be honest and tell you I am being treated for chronic insomnia and chronic/major depression. However, as I am thoroughly med-compliant, I am fine and well. Just wanted to say this so people know what they're getting. Honesty is my bread and butter. Also, most of the time I tend to be split between my two general moods/personaliies- I'm either forthright, brutally honest, sarcastic, pithy, cynical, clever, morbid, and generally jaded or I'm in a random/quirky sort of mood. When in that mood I love to laugh, watch British comedies, do insane/mischievous things, or otherwise get geeky/nerdy and academic. Though, when I have episodes, I tend to get very moody, melancholic, sad- you get the idea.
Picture (optional): The one time I looked like I could be Draco Malfoy's doppleganger. This is my actual hair color and what I look like most of my days (excepting my hair style is a bit different now). This is just a humor shot of me in my crazy color clashing glory (apologies for the awful quality- taken from my camera-phone).

Date: 2010-11-12 12:04 am (UTC)sweeping dramtic bow for your book and movie list, they are pretty brilliant!
I adore Oscar Wilde, even though he was apparently a little bit of a jerk, I adore him none the less. I read Dorian Gray when I was , and I haven't looked back. I think I still have that copy of the book somewhere. I loved his little story about the giant in the garden. Have you ever seen the movie biopic with Stephen Fry? Its isn't perfect, but I have a total soft spot for it.
Anywho, after that little ramble, just wanted to say hi. Ive put a link to be posting below, and if you want, maybe we could trade emails?

Date: 2010-11-12 01:37 am (UTC)Oh yes, I actually have the film Wilde with Stephen Fry- funny, I thought I'd listed it in my movie list...
I looked over your introduction, and I find it amusing that you also liked the Lemony Snicket series. I had all the books until I was forced to sell them. Unemployment is a total bitch. I also remember reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower way back when I was in high school. It's also cool that you know of Hard Candy. Great movie, that. It's also fantastic that we have Harry Potter in common, considering I started re-reading the books in time for the upcoming film. :-) Started writing Harry Potter fanfic again- which is something I haven't done since 2006 or so.
Anyway, yes, we can trade e-mails, but perhaps first we could just start out on instant messenger? I've gone through so many groups, guilds, communities, where I've exchanged e-mails without discretion and then had to close down my account to start a new one because it turned out that I didn't like the people after all or they got fresh with me and such. So now I prefer to do instant messenger as a sort of screening process. As someone who is introverted and functionally-ill, I have to be smart now about how I meet people.
Now I'll just go send you a private message with my IM information. :-) Hope that hasn't put you off at all.

Date: 2010-11-12 02:51 am (UTC)As far as unemployment goes, I totally understand, im in the same situation. Im actually re-reading all the Harry Potter books at the moment too, want to be nice a prepared for the up-coming festivities. I've only been writing little drabbles myself at the moment.
Oh it doesn't put me off at all, I totally understand. I sent a reply to your message with my messenger details. It says alot about my mental state that I would give my email at a drop of a hat on l.j and completly refuse to do so with a brand new person irl.
The mysteries of the human condition and all that jazz.

Date: 2010-11-12 03:12 am (UTC)What's funny, is that I'm actually reading through the series backwards. I meant to only re-read the 7th book for the film, but then (as I'd only read it once since I purchased it long ago - I usually re-read books more often, but studies at uni ruined that) I was suddenly re-inspired to write HP stories and totally wanted to re-read all of them that I decided to just go backwards, as it would be awkward to go from 7th to the 1st... :-) Currently reading Order of the Phoenix with two chapters or so to go. This book is still my all time favourite. Curious, do you have a pairing you like to read or write? Or do you prefer general non-pairing oriented stories? For my part, I am a true believer in Harry/Neville- in my mind with their being so closely linked through the prophecy and growing up without parents and suffering for it, I just feel they could totally understand each other. ^__^ Though, Lupin and Luna comes second after them, for favourite characters (not pairings, mind).
No, it just means you're more trusting online perhaps because you can't see the person and all- but it really isn't safe. Anyone good with technology and hacking can find you through an e-mail address, through an IP address, and the online trail one you leave. I mean, we're never safe, are we? But it helps to be as caution as one can be.

Date: 2010-11-28 10:14 pm (UTC)I'd be interested in exchanging letters! My post (having finally found it) is here: http://community.livejournal.com/queermail/192097.html
That's a bit easier than trying to write out stuff about myself again. :) If you're interested, email me (aissymi@gmail.com)

Date: 2010-11-28 11:21 pm (UTC)Normally I'd love more than anything to write letters like I used to. I miss it, but unfortunately I'm on medications right now that cause my hands to shake a lot. I can write, but anything longer than a small paragraph gets tricky. I have to write so slowly to make my writing legible- which makes my hands sore from having to grip and press so hard and for an extended time.
We can do instant messenger or exchange e-mails and maybe we could friend each other because I tend to write a lot of my journey and battles with my major depression and my traumas in my journal anyway.
Let me know what you think. If had my own printer, I could easily type my letters, but I don't and I have no money to be paying for printing out said letters, you see.

Date: 2010-11-28 11:34 pm (UTC)p.s. I know I'm quite weird and socially awkward. Occupational hazard from being far too cerebral for my own good. :-)
